Bon Iver Announces 'Get Out The Vote' Concerts Ahead of Election

During the lead-up to the 2020 Presidential Election, indie-rock singer Justin Vernon of Bon Iver has prepared three “Get Out The Vote” concerts in the swing-state of Wisconsin.

The shows will take place in early October in Vernon’s home state. He’ll be playing the La Crosse on October 5, the Wausau on October 7, and Appleton on October 8. The three gigs are a part of the larger 46 for 46 concert series with a goal to elect a Democrat as the 46th president of the United States. Ahead of Election Day, the series will hold 46 concerts featuring local talent across the country.

46 for 46 co-founder Kyle Frenette, who previously managed Bon Iver and once ran for Congress in Wisconsin, told Pollstar that the campaign is “built around voter engagement and just increasing civic engagement overall.” Other 46 for 46 shows include Tacocat in Washington, Nathaniel Rateliff in Colorado, Dashboard Confessional in Florida, and Cha Wa in Louisiana.

“Instead of it being a tour and bringing artists from different places to promote a single message, it’s asking artists to go back home and promote a message that they know better than we do,” Frenette said.

Iver announced the news over the weekend, noting that he’s excited to trek across Wisconsin as a part of the campaign and “elect the 46th POTUS and promote civic action through music.”

“They say Wisconsin could decide it all in 2020,” Iver said in a tweet. “We don’t take that lightly, so we’re asking fans to pledge to vote in order to gain access to presale tickets for all three shows starting Wednesday, February 19 at 10:00 AM CST.”

Those hoping to gain presale access to the Wisconsin shows should follow links at boniver.org/tour and pledge to vote by filling in basic information. Once making the pledge, you’ll be sent an email containing links to purchase tickets for all of the three 46 for 46 shows.

General public tickets will be available starting on Friday, February 21 at 10:00 a.m. CST.
